How DRG assignment works
The MS-DRG grouper assigns one DRG per stay from the full claim: principal diagnosis, secondary diagnoses (CCs and MCCs), procedures, age, sex, and discharge status. This page is a reference for DRG weights and lengths of stay. It does not group a claim. Weights are national averages before hospital-specific payment adjustments.
